The annual course is used to update First Aid at Work training and Emergency First Aid at Work Training mid-qualification. This course is for people with at least one year left on their valid EFAW or FAW certificate. On completion of this first aid training, candidates should have demonstrated their competence to:
- Assess the situation in an emergency.
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure.
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock.
- Candidate will be able to describe ventricular fibrillation and its significance
- Candidate will be able to explain defibrillation
- Candidate will be able to explain the importance of early defibrillation
- Candidate will be able to identify when an AED should be used
- Candidate will be able to describe the maintenance requirements of an AED
- Candidate will be able to describe what records should be kept
This first aid course should also include any updates or changes to relevant first-aid procedures. This can be used as a stand-alone BLS / Basic Life Support course.
Duration
Basic skills update first aid courses will contain at least fourcontact hours run over half a day. Trainers will use continuous assessment to evaluate candidates. There is no final practical assessment. A certificate which is valid for 1 year is awarded to successful students.
