The paediatric first aid courses are run over a 12 hour period using a modular system with each module being approximately 50 minutes – 1 hour in length. Each student will receive a free first aid booklet.
This Paediatric First Aid course is suitable for child minders, child cares, nursery nurses, nannies and pre school teachers. This paediatric first aid course for childcarers can be run on an in-house basis in Nurseries, preschools, playgroups etc and is an ideal qualification for those wishing to comply with the guidelines issued by Ofsted. This course complies with the Statutory Framework for the Early years Foundation Stage document. Day 1 of a 2-day Paediatric FA and/or Emergency Paediatric First Aid (6 Hours):
Module 1 - Introduction and paediatric first aid course Aims. Base Plan emergency action and care of the casualty, including recovery position. Dealing with seizures
Module 2 - The Circulatory System and Resuscitation. Defibrillation.
Module 3 - The disorders of Respiration – Choking
Module 4 - Wounds, Bleeding and Shock. Dressings Hygiene and infection control, Treatment of shock
Module 5 - First Aid treatment for minor injuries, including; bites stings, grazes bumps and bruises, nose bleeds and small splinters.
Module 6 - First aid Kits, Completion of Paperwork. Accident / Incident book. Medication Confidentiality
Day 2 of a 2-day Paediatric FA (6 Hours):
Module 7 - Head Injuries. Including Moving a casualty with a suspected neck or spine injury.
Module 8 - Recognition and treatment of Diabetes, Asthma, Allergic reactions, Meningitis and febrile convulsions.
Module 9 - Recognition and Treatment of Fractures, Dislocations, Strains and Sprains
Module 10 - Burns and Scalds, Electric Shock
Module 11 - Dealing with Poisoning.
Module 12 - Foreign Objects, treating extremes of Heat and Cold.
This two-day paediatric first aid course fulfils the requirement of Ofsted.
